Canon FD 28mm f/2.8 Wide-Angle Prime Lens with Both Caps — FD Mount

Canon’s FD lens lineup produced some of the finest manual focus glass of the 1970s and 80s — and the 28mm f/2.8 sits near the top of the wide-angle category within that system. It’s the lens FD shooters reach for when they want to go wide without compromising on optical quality, and it’s the lens mirrorless adapters hunt for when they want Canon character at a focal length that breathes.

At 28mm you’re shooting genuinely wide. The field of view pulls the whole scene into the frame — the environment around your subject, the context that gives a photograph meaning. It’s the focal length that street photographers, documentary shooters, travel photographers, and architecture enthusiasts gravitate toward when a standard lens feels too tight. It sees more, shows more, and invites the viewer into the frame rather than isolating them from it.

The f/2.8 maximum aperture gives you real low-light capability — fast enough to shoot without flash in challenging conditions, and fast enough to produce background separation at close focus distances even at this wide focal length. Stop it down to f/8 and the entire frame locks up sharp from corner to corner with the kind of edge-to-edge resolution that Canon’s FD primes are known for.

The Canon FD mount connects natively to any Canon FD or FL body — the AE-1, AE-1 Program, A-1, F-1, T90, and more. With an FD to E-mount or FD to MFT adapter it drops onto Sony mirrorless, Micro Four Thirds, and Fujifilm X bodies cleanly. On Sony full frame it’s a true 28mm. On Micro Four Thirds it becomes a 56mm equivalent — a natural portrait focal length with wide-angle rendering character that produces a look distinctly different from modern glass.

The all-black barrel with Canon’s knurled focus ring is one of the best-looking manual focus lens designs ever produced. In excellent condition with both caps, this is a complete, ready-to-mount piece of Canon’s finest optical heritage.
